Chapter 7: The Visitor No One Expected

Chapter 7: The Visitor No One Expected
The blaring sirens continued to echo through Blackstone Correctional Facility.
Red emergency lights washed over the warehouse, turning every face into a shifting mixture of crimson and shadow.
Nobody moved.
Nobody even dared to whisper.
The announcement repeated through the loudspeakers.
"All inmates remain where you are."
"This facility is under immediate lockdown."
"Failure to comply will result in the use of force."
Marcus slowly backed away from the ring.
His heart pounded harder with every passing second.
Something had gone terribly wrong.
The emergency lockdown protocol had only been activated twice in the prison's history.
Once after a riot.
Once after an attempted escape.
Never...
Because someone came to visit a prisoner.
Across the ring, Kate remained perfectly still.
She looked neither surprised nor relieved.
If anything, she looked as calm as she had been since the moment she entered Blackstone.
That frightened Marcus even more.
...
The warehouse doors burst open.
CLANG!
Nearly twenty heavily armed correctional officers flooded inside in perfect formation.
Unlike the guards assigned to Blackstone's daily operations, these officers wore black tactical uniforms without name tags.
Body armor covered their chests.
Protective helmets concealed their faces.
Every movement was disciplined.
Precise.
Professional.
Within seconds, they secured every entrance.
Every exit.
Every window.
The inmates instinctively stepped backward.
Even Rex lowered his hands.
One of the corrupt guards attempted to speak.
"We've got everything under contr—"
"Quiet."
The command came from a tall officer whose silver insignia immediately caught everyone's attention.
He wasn't asking.
He was ordering.
The guard swallowed his words.
...
A path slowly opened through the tactical officers.
Heavy footsteps echoed across the concrete floor.
An older man entered the warehouse.
His neatly pressed dark suit contrasted sharply with the prison around him.
His silver hair was combed perfectly despite the rain outside.
He carried no weapon.
No badge.
No visible identification.
Yet the moment he appeared...
Every tactical officer stood straighter.
Even the prison warden hurried behind him instead of beside him.
Marcus whispered nervously,
"Who... is that?"
No one answered.
The man walked directly toward the ring without looking left or right.
His eyes searched the crowd only once.
Until they found Kate.
He stopped.
For several long seconds...
Neither of them spoke.
The entire warehouse held its breath.
Then the distinguished visitor gave the smallest respectful nod.
"Miss Walker."
Kate inclined her head in return.
"Director."
A wave of confusion swept through the inmates.
Director?
Director of what?
The prison warden immediately stepped forward.
"Sir, we weren't informed she knew—"
The older man raised one finger.
The warden fell silent instantly.
Marcus felt his stomach tighten.
He had never seen the warden obey anyone that quickly.
...
The visitor looked toward the ring floor.
His eyes settled on the homemade knife lying beside Rex's boot.
Then he slowly examined the broken boards where the giant had been thrown.
Finally, he turned toward Marcus.
"You organized this."
It wasn't a question.
Marcus forced a nervous smile.
"I... I don't know what you're talking about."
The visitor glanced at one of the tactical officers.
"Record everything."
"Yes, sir."
Tiny body cameras switched on simultaneously.
Marcus's confidence began to crumble.
Every illegal fight.
Every bribe.
Every assault.
Years of corruption suddenly seemed ready to collapse in a single night.
...
Rex looked at Kate in disbelief.
"You knew he was coming?"
Kate shook her head.
"No."
"Then why aren't you surprised?"
She answered quietly.
"Because if he came..."
"...something much bigger has happened."
The older man overheard her words.
For the first time, a faint smile crossed his face.
"You always notice the important part first."
Marcus's eyes darted between them.
"What is this?"
"Who is she?"
No one answered him.
...
The visitor reached inside his jacket.
Several inmates instinctively tensed.
Instead of a weapon, he removed a sealed leather folder marked with an official government crest.
He handed it to the warden.
"Read the authorization."
The warden broke the seal with trembling fingers.
His face changed after reading only the first paragraph.
His hands began to shake.
"This... this can't be..."
"It has already been confirmed," the visitor replied calmly.
The warden looked toward Kate with complete disbelief.
Then, without hesitation...
He stood at attention.
Every tactical officer immediately did the same.
The sound of twenty pairs of boots striking the concrete echoed through the warehouse.
Even the honest guards copied the gesture.
The inmates stared in stunned silence.
No prisoner...
Had ever received that kind of respect.
Marcus felt cold sweat running down his neck.
"Tell me what's happening!"
The visitor finally looked at him.
"You've spent years believing Miss Walker was merely another inmate."
He paused.
"You were wrong."
Marcus laughed nervously.
"She's still wearing a prison uniform."
"Appearances are often misleading."
The visitor slowly turned back toward Kate.
"Miss Walker..."
"I apologize."
"The operation lasted longer than expected."
Operation?
The single word spread through the warehouse like wildfire.
Kate exhaled softly.
"So..."
"It's finished?"
The visitor nodded once.
"Yes."
"The evidence has been secured."
"The arrests have already begun."
Marcus frowned.
"Arrests?"
The visitor's eyes met his.
"Not hers."
A tactical officer stepped forward.
Metal handcuffs clicked open.
He walked directly past Kate...
Past Rex...
And stopped in front of Marcus.
"You are under arrest."
For the first time since controlling Blackstone Prison...
Marcus's confident smile disappeared completely.
And as two officers grabbed his arms, he realized the impossible truth.
The quiet woman he had forced into the ring...
May you like
Had never been the target.
She had been the bait.
