The countdown echoed through every corridor.
28:59... 28:58...
The crimson lights washed over the underground complex like flowing blood.
No one spoke.
Everyone stared at the image of Doctor Vale carrying the glowing crystal deeper into Warehouse 19.
The vibration beneath their feet became stronger.
Dust drifted from the ceiling.
Somewhere far below, a deep metallic sound rolled through the earth—not like an explosion, but like enormous gears turning after decades of silence.
Henrik looked toward Victor.
"You've known about this all along."
Victor didn't deny it.
"I knew pieces."
"You lied."
"I survived."
Those three words carried more weight than any explanation.
Robert turned toward Marta.
"We're running out of time."
She looked at the countdown.
"If the crystal powers this place..."
"...then taking it away is shutting everything down."
Mira slowly shook her head.
"No."
Everyone looked at her.
"The crystal isn't powering Meridian."
"It is keeping something asleep."
Silence filled the control room.
Elena stepped closer to her daughter.
"What exactly is beneath the southern site?"
Mira hesitated.
"I've never seen it."
"But I've heard it."
Victor closed his eyes.
"The resonance."
Marta frowned.
"You've heard it too?"
Victor nodded.
"Every engineer assigned to the deepest level eventually heard the same sound."
"What sound?"
He looked toward the floor.
"A heartbeat."
At that exact moment...
BOOM.
The entire control room shook violently.
One of the old monitors shattered.
Emergency messages flooded every screen.
SEISMIC ACTIVITY DETECTED.
LEVEL NINE BREACH.
UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO FOUNDATION CHAMBER.
Sofia smiled faintly.
"He finally reached it."
Robert turned sharply.
"You planned this."
"I planned freedom."
"For whom?"
Sofia's expression became unreadable.
"For everyone Meridian buried."
Suddenly Adrian's voice crackled through the speakers.
"Marta!"
"I'm in Warehouse 19."
"Don't let Vale reach the lower vault."
Behind him came gunfire.
Then the transmission ended.
Without another word, Marta grabbed the key.
"I'm going."
Robert immediately followed.
"So am I."
Henrik picked up an emergency flashlight.
"Nobody walks into that place alone."
Victor remained where he stood.
For several seconds he didn't move.
Then he quietly removed the Meridian badge from his coat and dropped it onto the floor.
"I've served the wrong people for thirty years."
He looked at Marta.
"This time..."
