Chapter 14 - Two Men Named Victor

Lucas received emergency treatment inside the airport medical unit.

Martin questioned him while Ethan listened quietly from the corner.

"There isn't one Victor Lang," Lucas whispered.

"There are two."

Martin stared at him.

"What are you talking about?"

"The man everyone believed died seven years ago... died exactly as the report says."

Silence filled the room.

Lucas swallowed painfully.

"The person speaking to you now is his identical twin brother."

Ethan frowned.

"My father never mentioned a brother."

"Almost nobody knew."

Lucas explained that Victor Lang and Vincent Lang had deliberately hidden their identities throughout their careers.

Victor was a respected aviation safety researcher.

Vincent worked in corporate intelligence.

When Victor uncovered the counterfeit aircraft network, Vincent infiltrated it.

But somewhere along the investigation...

The brothers changed places.

No one knew whether Vincent had betrayed Victor...

Or whether Victor himself had become corrupted.

"The explosion destroyed every record proving which brother survived," Lucas said.

Martin slowly sat down.

"So we've been hunting a ghost."

Lucas nodded.

"And the man using Victor's name wants it to stay that way."

Ethan opened Samuel Hale's remaining documents.

One faded photograph caught his eye.

It showed his father standing beside Victor.

Or Vincent.

On the back, Samuel had written a single sentence.

Trust the one with the broken watch.

Ethan looked up.

"The man on the video wore gloves."

May you like

Martin's eyes widened.

"So we never saw his watch."
