Chapter 44 - THE BLUEPRINT WITH TWO SIGNATURES
Charles Benton carefully spread the large blueprint across the conference table inside the archive room. Everyone instinctively leaned closer.
Unlike the engineering drawings they had recovered from the warehouse, this blueprint focused on the layout of the entire Reeves Engineering campus. Offices, assembly halls, testing bays, laboratories, and training facilities were all carefully labeled in crisp black ink.
Ryan pointed toward one corner.
"This section isn't on the final construction plans."
Charles nodded.
"It was removed before construction began."
Daniel followed the faded pencil markings until he reached a rectangular building labeled only as Training Workshop B.
"My father wanted this?"
"He insisted on it," Charles replied.
Samuel folded his arms.
"What was different about it?"
Charles smiled.
"It wasn't designed for executives."
"It wasn't even designed for experienced engineers."
Everyone waited.
"It was designed for people who had never touched a machine before."
Richard looked intrigued.
"Apprentices?"
Charles nodded.
"Veterans returning to civilian life."
"Young people who couldn't afford university."
"Workers changing careers."
Helen's expression softened.
"Martin believed talent could be found anywhere."
"He often said that determination arrives long before opportunity."
Daniel looked down at the blueprint.
"I never knew he cared so much about teaching."
Helen gave him a gentle smile.
"Because he never talked about helping people."
"He simply helped them."
Charles then pointed toward the bottom corner of the blueprint.
"There."
Daniel immediately recognized one signature.
Martin Cross.
Below it appeared another.
Edward Reeves.
Side by side.
Neither signature was larger than the other.
Samuel smiled quietly.
"They signed it together."
Charles nodded.
"Martin refused to approve the plans until Edward signed beside him."
Ryan looked surprised.
"Why?"
Charles answered without hesitation.
"Because Martin believed shared responsibility created stronger leaders."
Daniel stared at the signatures for a long time.
His father had never wanted to stand above others.
He had wanted to stand beside them.
