Chapter 45 - THE WALL OF FACES

Over the next several days, the archive room continued changing.
Boxes became shelves.
Shelves became organized collections.
The large whiteboard timeline expanded until it stretched across an entire wall.
One afternoon, Ryan entered carrying several enlarged copies of factory photographs.
"I had these restored."
Daniel carefully examined them.
The faded images now revealed faces that had previously been little more than shadows.
Engineers laughed together beside unfinished prototypes.
Mechanics celebrated completing difficult projects.
Apprentices stood proudly beside mentors.
For the first time, the archive felt alive.
Samuel suggested arranging the photographs differently.
"Not by department."
Richard looked up.
"How then?"
"By people."
Within hours, they began creating what Ryan jokingly called The Wall of Faces.
Beneath every photograph they added whatever information they could verify.
Name.
Position.
Years at Reeves Engineering.
Personal memories shared by former colleagues.
The display quickly became the most visited part of the archive.
Employees from the dealership quietly wandered in during lunch breaks.
Some spent only a few minutes.
Others remained for nearly an hour reading every story.
Marcus entered one afternoon carrying fresh coffee.
He stood silently before Martin Cross's photograph.
Daniel joined him.
"You've been coming in here a lot."
Marcus nodded.
"I've been learning."
Daniel smiled.
"About engineering?"
Marcus shook his head.
"About people."
He pointed toward one photograph showing Martin kneeling beside a young apprentice who appeared embarrassed after making a mistake.
"What happened there?"
Helen smiled.
"I remember that day."
Everyone gathered around.
"The apprentice accidentally ruined an expensive component."
Ryan winced.
"I bet he was fired."
Helen laughed softly.
"No."
"Martin spent the afternoon teaching him how to make another one."
Daniel looked thoughtfully at the photograph.
"My father believed mistakes should become lessons."
Samuel nodded.
"Not labels."
As more memories filled the room, the archive slowly transformed from a collection of documents into something much richer.

It became a place where forgotten lives were remembered with dignity.
