Chapter 2 - Protocol Ash

Inside a forty-story glass tower downtown, the weekly board meeting came to an immediate stop.
Every executive's tablet displayed the same message.
PROTOCOL ASH ACTIVATED.
AUTHORIZED BY:
MARGARET COLLINS.
No one spoke.
Chairman Victor Hayes slowly removed his glasses.
"So...she finally called."
Across the room, General Counsel Rebecca Owens nodded.
"We prepared for this possibility every year."
One younger executive looked confused.
"I don't understand."
Victor looked toward an enormous portrait hanging behind the conference table.
Richard Collins.
Founder.
Visionary.
Billionaire industrialist.
Public records showed that Richard had left only modest assets after his death.
The newspapers had described him as a businessman whose empire collapsed before retirement.
None of that had been true.
Everything had been staged.
Richard had secretly transferred control of multiple companies into an irrevocable trust.
Only one person possessed ultimate authority.
Margaret.
She had refused every luxury after Richard's death.
Instead she insisted on living quietly beside her son.
Victor had asked why many years earlier.
Her answer remained unforgettable.
"I want to know whether my son loves me...
...or only what I can give him."
Today...
She finally had her answer.
Victor stood.
"Prepare every legal document."
Rebecca added,
"Notify every regional director."
"What level of response?"
Victor answered without hesitation.
"Full authority."
Meanwhile...
Margaret sat quietly on the edge of her bed.
The voice on the phone asked softly,
"Mrs. Collins...
Are you safe?"
She looked toward the bruise slowly darkening in the cracked bedroom mirror.
"No."
There was another brief silence.
Then the voice changed.
Professional.
Cold.
"Understood."
Within seconds, encrypted messages spread across dozens of secure networks.
Law firms.
Private investigators.
Medical consultants.
Financial auditors.
Corporate security divisions.
Every department received identical instructions.
Protect Margaret Collins.
Document everything.
Recover every asset.
No exceptions.
Back inside the house...
Daniel opened another beer.
Linda admired her fresh red nails.

Neither noticed three black SUVs quietly entering the neighborhood several streets away.
Nor did they realize dozens of years of carefully hidden truth were beginning to move toward their front door.
