Chapter 20 - The Heir They Had Been Waiting For

The stranger's words lingered over Platform Three.
"We've searched for the rightful heir for a very long time."
Emily instinctively stepped backward.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
The silver-haired man smiled politely.
"I expected you to say that."
Thomas moved in front of her.
"Identify yourself."
"My name has changed many times."
"Use the one you prefer."
A brief pause followed.
"Richard Hale."
David's expression darkened.
"I should have known."
Richard inclined his head.
"It has been far too many years, David."
Margaret quietly whispered to Thomas.
"He was never supposed to survive the purge."
Thomas frowned.
"What purge?"
"The night the archive was divided."
Richard slowly removed a pair of black leather gloves.
"No one survived."
David answered coldly.
"Except the people who planned it."
Richard ignored the accusation.
His attention remained fixed on Emily.
"You inherited far more than your father's name."
Emily tightened her grip on the wooden box.
"I don't want any of it."
"You don't have that luxury."
The emergency lights suddenly flickered.
Richard glanced upward.
"They've arrived earlier than expected."
Several armored figures emerged from both tunnel entrances.
Unlike the previous agents, these individuals wore no insignia.
No identification.
Only matte-black helmets hiding their faces.
Richard sighed.
"So they sent the Recovery Division."
Thomas immediately recognized the danger.
"Everyone move!"

The first flash grenade exploded near the edge of the platform.
The abandoned station vanished beneath smoke and blinding white light.
