Chapter 14 - News Begins to Spread

The emergency landing quickly became local news.

At first it was only a brief headline.

Late-night flight diverted after infant medical emergency.

Then someone uploaded a photograph.

A passenger had quietly captured the moment Elena had fallen asleep against Adrian's shoulder while he held Lucia's blanket in place.

Within hours...

Millions of people had seen it.

No names.

No explanation.

Just one caption.

Sometimes kindness is louder than words.

Inside the hospital, nobody knew.

Adrian certainly didn't.

His phone vibrated continuously inside his jacket pocket, ignored.

Meanwhile, the flight attendants who had witnessed everything gathered inside the crew lounge before continuing their schedules.

"I've never seen anything like that," one attendant admitted.

"The entire cabin changed."

Another nodded.

"People started by complaining."

"They ended by praying."

The captain overheard them.

"I've flown for twenty-eight years."

He poured another cup of coffee.

"I've diverted for medical emergencies before."

"But I've never watched strangers become a family in three hours."

Back inside intensive care, Harrow reviewed another scan.

The airway compression had become slightly worse.

Not dramatically.

But enough.

He called the surgical coordinator.

"I need every operating room schedule."

"Doctor?"

"If the weather clears..."

He looked toward Lucia.

"...we may not have another chance."

Elsewhere, Adrian's assistant boarded the first available charter flight carrying only one small wooden box.

She had no idea why it mattered.

She only knew that Adrian had protected it for years.

Back in the hospital corridor, Elena finally noticed Adrian's phone lying beside him.

The screen illuminated again.

Hundreds of unread messages.

News requests.

Television interviews.

Former foundation employees.

Board members.

Parents whose children had once received treatment.

She quietly turned the screen face down.

"You should answer them."

Adrian shook his head.

"Not today."

"What if they're important?"

He looked through the glass toward Lucia.

"They can wait."

His phone vibrated once more.

This message was different.

His assistant had landed.

She was only fifteen minutes away.

And she wasn't bringing only the wooden box.

May you like

She was bringing something Adrian had completely forgotten still existed.
