Chapter 35 - The Young Man Without an Arrival
Marcus's eyes remained fixed on the security monitor.
The young man standing near Terminal 4 looked no older than twenty-four. He carried only a worn gray backpack and wore a dark jacket despite the warm afternoon. His posture was calm, almost deliberate, as though he had rehearsed this moment countless times.
"Zoom in," Marcus ordered.
The technician enlarged the image.
Eleanor stepped closer, her hands trembling.
"I... I can't be certain."
The years had changed him. The boy in the family photographs had become a man with broader shoulders, sharper features, and a quiet confidence that reminded her painfully of Daniel.
Arthur studied the monitor in silence.
"He knows where to look."
Marcus frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"He didn't stop to read a departure board. He didn't hesitate after entering the terminal. He's walking directly toward this checkpoint."
Dana immediately dispatched two plainclothes officers.
"Do not approach him."
"Just watch."
Marcus nodded.
"If that's really Samuel, we don't know who else is watching him."
The technicians searched every available camera.
Something unusual appeared almost immediately.
Samuel had never been recorded entering through the main doors.
There was no footage from the parking garage.
No taxi drop-off.
No rideshare pickup.
No airport shuttle.
His first appearance was Camera T4-118.
Already inside the terminal.
Marcus replayed the recording.
Frame by frame.
At one instant the corridor was empty.
The next...
Samuel was simply there.
The timestamp hadn't skipped.
No frames were missing.
It looked as though he had walked into view from a blind spot that shouldn't have existed.
Arthur quietly whispered,
"Daniel mentioned one."
Marcus looked toward him.
"One what?"
"A corridor that wasn't supposed to appear on official maps."
Before Marcus could ask another question, Samuel stopped walking.
He slowly lifted his head.
Then, without hesitation...
...he looked directly into Camera T4-118.
Not toward it.
Into it.
