Chapter 30 - The Room Without Records

The monitors revealed a corridor they had never seen before.

Unlike the archive halls, this passage contained no shelves, no cabinets, and no surveillance cameras.

Arthur frowned.

"I don't remember this on the blueprint."

Helen unfolded the map again.

Neither did she.

The corridor simply didn't exist.

Yet the live feed clearly showed someone walking through it.

Daniel quickly memorized every turn displayed on the monitor.

"I think I know how to reach it."

They followed a narrow maintenance passage behind the main chamber.

The farther they walked, the quieter everything became.

The constant hum of ventilation faded.

Even the lights appeared softer.

Eventually they reached a polished steel door.

No symbols.

No inscriptions.

Only a single sentence engraved into the metal.

NOT EVERY TRUTH SHOULD BE PRESERVED.

Margaret pushed gently.

The door opened without resistance.

The room beyond shocked everyone.

It was completely empty.

No furniture.

No documents.

No machines.

Only white walls surrounding a lone wooden chair positioned beneath a skylight.

Rebecca looked around in confusion.

"After everything... this?"

Arthur slowly entered.

"No."

He pointed upward.

The skylight wasn't glass.

It was a giant mirror.

As they stepped farther inside, words slowly appeared across its surface.

Not projected.

Written from somewhere behind the reflective panel.

What would you erase if history gave you one chance?

Nobody answered.

Margaret noticed tiny slots hidden beneath the chair.

Daniel discovered similar openings inside the walls.

Helen measured the room with careful eyes.

"This isn't an archive."

Rebecca nodded.

"It's a test."

Before anyone could investigate further, the mirror changed again.

A countdown appeared.

Evaluation begins in 10:00

Soft chimes echoed through the chamber.

Hidden doors quietly sealed behind them.

Then Eleanor's voice filled the room one more time.

"If you're hearing me now, then you've reached the only place I hoped you would never have to enter."

The countdown continued.

09:59...

09:58...

09:57...

And somewhere beyond the mirrored ceiling, unseen observers had already begun watching every decision the Ellis family would make.
