Chapter 38 - The Island That Didn't Exist

Vivian unlocked another cabinet hidden inside the archive.
Unlike the previous files, this one contained modern satellite photographs.
Most showed empty ocean.
Nothing unusual.
Then she placed a transparent overlay on top of one image.
A faint outline appeared.
An island.
Small.
Rocky.
Completely absent from official navigation charts.
Daniel studied the coordinates.
"I've sailed near this area."
"You've sailed around it," Vivian corrected.
"The currents naturally push boats away."
Arthur examined decades of weather records stored beside the photographs.
"Every storm seems to begin here."
Vivian nodded.
"For generations people believed it was bad luck."
Margaret looked again at the knitted constellation.
"The blanket leads there."
"Yes."
Rebecca unfolded Eleanor's final unfinished notebook.
Tucked between two pages rested a ferry ticket dated only five days earlier.
Destination:
Grayhaven Research Dock.
No such dock appeared on any public map.
Vivian closed the notebook.
"Eleanor left Section Thirteen through Grayhaven."
Helen looked toward the satellite images.
"And you think she's waiting there?"
Vivian hesitated for the first time.
"I think she expected someone."
"But I no longer believe it was herself."
Before anyone could ask what she meant, every monitor inside the archive flashed simultaneously.
A new message appeared across every screen.
GRAYHAVEN CONNECTION ESTABLISHED
A live camera feed faded into view.
Waves crashed against a lonely pier beneath heavy fog.
A single lantern burned at the end of the dock.
Standing beside it was a solitary figure wearing Eleanor's familiar blue scarf.
The figure slowly lifted an old-fashioned radio.
A voice crackled through hidden speakers.
"I know you've solved the blanket."
May you like
There was a long pause.
"Now it's time to discover why it was made in the first place."
