Chapter 10 - Someone Else Was Watching

Just as the crowd focused on the mysterious documents, a faint click echoed from the hillside overlooking the lake.

Elias lifted his head immediately.

The sound hadn't come from the dock.

It came from the trees.

Someone was watching.

Far beyond the shoreline, partially hidden behind thick branches, sunlight reflected briefly from the lens of a camera.

The reflection vanished almost instantly.

Elias narrowed his eyes.

The rescue team leader noticed his reaction.

"What is it?"

"We're not alone."

The leader slowly turned.

Several rescuers instinctively scanned the hillside.

Most people saw nothing.

But Elias had spent decades noticing details others missed.

Whoever stood in those woods had remained perfectly still until the pouch appeared.

Now they were recording everything.

The tallest bully also glanced toward the trees.

His face lost all color.

"You..."

Elias looked directly at him.

"You know who's up there."

The bully remained silent.

His breathing became faster.

The rescue team leader quietly spoke into his radio.

"Seal the road."

No one moved.

May you like

No one dared speak.

High above the lake, hidden among the trees, the unknown observer slowly lowered the camera... then disappeared deeper into the forest, leaving behind far more questions than answers.
