Chapter 14 - The Bully's Secret

Back at the dock, the tallest bully paced nervously while his two friends demanded answers.
"You knew something," one accused.
"What aren't you telling us?"
"I don't know anything."
"Liar."
The youngest bully finally spoke.
"When we were kids, your uncle warned us never to go near the north side of the lake."
The tallest bully remained silent.
"He said some places should stay buried."
His hands trembled slightly.
He had never believed those warnings.
Not until Captain Elias recovered the pouch.
Not until the rescue team appeared.
Not until that old photograph surfaced.
He slowly looked toward the forest.
For the first time in years, he was no longer afraid of being arrested.
