Chapter 42 - The File Opens

Elias quietly opened the folder before Aaron could.

The first pages contained medical reports.

School evaluations.

Psychological assessments.

Everything dated years before Aaron remembered attending school.

Then came a photograph.

A frightened little boy stood beside Jacob Mercer.

Samuel gasped.

"Jacob knew him."

Henry slowly nodded.

"He was protecting children."

Another page revealed handwritten notes.

Remove child immediately.

Identity compromised.

Transfer before Cross arrives.

Aaron's hands trembled.

"I don't remember any of this."

"You weren't supposed to," Nathan answered calmly.

"Memory is surprisingly fragile when frightened children are moved often enough."

The rescue team leader closed the file.

"Whether it's true or not changes nothing today."

Nathan smiled.

"Oh..."

May you like

"It changes everything."
