Chapter 48 - The Last Letter

Beside the tape recorder lay a sealed envelope.

Across the front, written in Jacob Mercer's unmistakable handwriting, were only three words.

For Elias Only.

He carefully opened it.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

> If you're reading this, then I failed to stop them. Don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known what we were really fighting. Nathan Cross was never building an organization. He was building a system. Remove one leader, and another takes the name. Destroy one operation, and another quietly replaces it. The only way to end this is to expose everything at once. Never let them control the story.

Elias folded the letter slowly.

Near the bottom, another sentence caught his attention.

There is one person in this room who has never lied to you. Trust only that person.

He read the line again.

There was no name.

No clue.

May you like

Only another mystery.
