While attention focused on the sheriff, the youngest of the three bullies slowly approached the rescue team leader.
"I need to tell someone something."
The rescuer led him away from the crowd.
The teenager's hands were shaking.
"My uncle worked for Nathan Cross."
The rescuer remained silent.
"When I was little... I wasn't supposed to hear it... but they talked about a man named Jacob."
"What did they say?"
"They said Jacob buried something before they could stop him."
The rescuer glanced toward Elias.
The young bully continued.
"They searched the lake for weeks."
"They never found it."
His voice cracked.
"My uncle always said... if the old fisherman ever came back... everything would fall apart."
