Chapter 10 - An Unexpected Invitation
Nearly two weeks later, Emma received an email from the hospital.
At first she assumed it was simply a follow-up survey.
Instead, it was an invitation.
The pediatric department was organizing a community safety workshop for new parents.
Dr. Harris had recommended her story as a real-life example of why unusual symptoms should never be dismissed without careful observation.
Emma hesitated.
"I'm not a speaker."
Daniel smiled through their video call.
"You don't have to be."
"You only have to tell the truth."
The workshop took place on a Saturday afternoon.
Dozens of young parents filled the meeting room.
Some held newborn babies.
Others chased energetic toddlers around the chairs.
Emma stood at the front, feeling more nervous than she had expected.
She held up the small sealed bag containing the broken toy arrow.
"You probably think this is harmless."
Everyone leaned forward.
"So did I."
She described the endless crying.
The sleepless afternoon.
The terrifying moment she saw what looked like a dark hole inside Noah's mouth.
Several parents instinctively looked at their own children.
Emma wasn't trying to frighten anyone.
Instead, she explained how important it was to stay calm, observe carefully, and seek medical care whenever something seemed seriously wrong.
Afterward, parents surrounded her with questions.
Some asked about toy safety.
Others wanted advice on recognizing unusual symptoms.
Emma repeated the same sentence again and again.
"I'm not an expert."
