Chapter 45 - A Visit to the Fire Station
The following month, Noah's kindergarten class visited the local fire station.
The firefighters welcomed the children with enormous smiles.
They demonstrated helmets, protective clothing, emergency vehicles, and rescue equipment.
The children climbed inside a fire engine one by one.
Everything felt exciting.
Near the end of the tour, Fire Captain Lewis gathered everyone together.
"Who can tell me what firefighters do?"
Hands shot into the air.
"We put out fires!"
"We rescue people!"
"We help animals!"
Captain Lewis nodded after every answer.
"That's right."
Then he held up a small smoke detector.
"And this little device helps us before we even arrive."
He explained that noticing danger early often prevented much bigger emergencies.
Emma listened from the back of the room while the parents observed quietly.
The lesson wasn't really about fires.
It was about awareness.
Captain Lewis asked another question.
"What's the first thing you should do if something doesn't seem right?"
Several children answered together.
"Tell a grown-up!"
Noah added confidently,
"Don't ignore it."
Captain Lewis smiled.
"Exactly."
On the ride home, Noah couldn't stop talking about the fire truck.
"I want to help people someday."
Emma laughed.
"You have plenty of time to decide."
"What if I'm a firefighter?"
"That would be wonderful."
"What if I'm a doctor?"
"Also wonderful."
"What if I'm both?"
Daniel chuckled from the driver's seat.

The family laughed together as rain clouds slowly cleared, revealing bright afternoon sunshine.
