Chapter 25 - Spring Cleaning

A few weeks later, Emma decided it was time for a complete spring cleaning.

Every cupboard was emptied.

Every drawer opened.

Every forgotten storage bin was brought into the living room.

Daniel laughed as he looked around the apartment.

"It looks like we're moving."

"Maybe we are."

"Just... into a safer version of our home."

Together they sorted everything into four piles.

Keep.

Repair.

Donate.

Discard.

Noah insisted on helping.

He proudly carried lightweight stuffed animals from one box to another while announcing each one's name.

His favorite elephant remained tucked firmly beneath one arm.

As Emma inspected an old activity table, she noticed one plastic button had become loose.

It still functioned perfectly.

From a distance it looked completely safe.

But with gentle pressure, the button popped free.

Daniel stared at it.

"I never would have noticed."

Emma placed it into the discard pile.

Next came an old musical toy.

One screw had begun backing out after years of use.

Another toy had a cracked wheel.

None of the defects were dramatic.

None would have been obvious during everyday play.

But together they reminded Emma how ordinary wear could slowly create new hazards.

By late afternoon the apartment looked completely different.

There were fewer toys than before.

Yet every remaining one had been inspected carefully.

That evening Noah sat happily surrounded by blocks, books, puzzles, and art supplies.

He never once asked where the discarded toys had gone.

Daniel wrapped an arm around Emma.

"You know..."

"What?"

"This doesn't feel like we're taking things away."

Emma smiled.

"It feels like we're making room."

Room for safer play.

May you like

Room for new memories.

Room for Noah to keep exploring without either parent constantly worrying about what might happen next.
