Chapter 21 - The Grandparents' House

A few days before Christmas, Emma and Noah visited Daniel's parents.
His mother had transformed the house into a festive wonderland.
Twinkling lights covered the windows.
Decorations hung from nearly every shelf.
Colorful ornaments filled a large basket waiting to be placed on the Christmas tree.
Noah's eyes grew wide.
"Pretty!"
Before anyone could react, he hurried toward the basket.
Emma gently caught his hand.
"Let's decorate together."
Her mother-in-law smiled.
"You've become so careful."
Emma laughed softly.
"I suppose I have."
As they unpacked the ornaments, Emma noticed several tiny decorative hooks lying loose inside the box.
Nearby sat a miniature snow globe with a cracked base.
Neither item would have concerned her a year earlier.
Now she quietly placed both on a separate table.
Daniel noticed.
"You found something?"
She nodded.
"Nothing dangerous yet. Just things I'd rather Noah not play with."
His father watched the exchange thoughtfully.
"When you raised Daniel, we never thought about things like this."
Emma smiled.
"We know more now."
The family spent the afternoon decorating the tree together.
Instead of worrying, Emma simply stayed aware.
Noah proudly hung soft fabric ornaments on the lower branches while the fragile glass decorations remained higher up.
Later that evening, Daniel's mother admitted something surprising.
"After hearing Noah's story, I inspected every toy and decoration before you arrived."
Emma looked around the beautifully decorated living room.
Sometimes awareness spread quietly, one family at a time.

Not through fear.
But through love.
