Chapter 6 - The Story Spreads

The next morning Noah woke smiling.

For the first time in almost twenty-four hours, the apartment felt peaceful again.

He laughed when Emma tickled his feet.

He finished an entire bowl of oatmeal.

He even brought her his favorite picture book.

Watching him behave like himself again felt almost unreal.

Emma couldn't stop thinking about the tiny suction cup.

She placed every toy in the living room onto the floor.

One by one she inspected each of them.

Anything loose immediately went into a separate box.

She tugged gently on every wheel, button, sticker, and decoration.

Several toys she had considered perfectly safe suddenly looked very different.

Later that afternoon she called Daniel overseas.

The moment he answered, she burst into tears.

"I thought I was going to lose him."

Daniel listened silently as she explained everything.

By the end of the call, neither of them wanted to dismiss small household risks ever again.

That evening Emma shared her experience in a parenting group online.

She uploaded a photograph of the tiny suction cup beside a coin for scale.

Her caption was simple.

"If your child cries nonstop and something feels wrong, trust your instincts. Please check everything carefully."

She expected perhaps a dozen people to read it.

Instead...

Hundreds of comments appeared within hours.

Parents began sharing similar experiences.

One child had hidden a sticker inside his mouth.

Another had lodged a bead between two teeth.

Someone else described a tiny piece of foam stuck near the throat.

Emma spent hours reading every response.

Again and again she noticed the same sentence.

"I never knew this could happen."

May you like

Neither had she.

Which was exactly why she decided she would keep telling the story.
