The district never announced Ethan Brooks' visit publicly.
There were no reporters.
No cameras.
No speeches.
Only a quiet meeting in a conference room inside district headquarters.
Claire entered first.
Ethan followed a few seconds later.
He looked older than Alex remembered, but his thoughtful expression hadn't changed.
Superintendent Grant greeted him personally.
"Thank you for coming."
Ethan smiled politely.
"I almost didn't."
No one pressured him to speak.
Instead, investigators simply listened.
He described the constant comments about his hearing aids.
Students pretending not to understand him.
People talking louder instead of more clearly.
Classmates removing the batteries as a "joke."
Teachers who genuinely cared.
Others who never noticed.
When he finished, the room remained silent.
Not because anyone lacked questions.
Because everyone understood the weight of what he had shared.
Investigator Bennett finally asked,
"If you could change one thing for future students, what would it be?"
Ethan thought for nearly a minute.
"Teach students that inclusion isn't something adults enforce."
He folded his hands.
"It's something classmates choose every day."
Grant wrote the sentence down exactly as he said it.
Meanwhile, Alex and Emma continued preparing for the regional engineering competition.
Their prototype finally completed its first successful outdoor test.
The wheelchair crossed uneven pavement smoothly.
The younger robotics students cheered.
Alex laughed.
Months earlier, he had imagined presenting the project only as an engineering challenge.
Now he realized it represented something much larger.
Design could remove barriers.
