The email from Dr. Ortiz arrived on a quiet Tuesday afternoon.
Its subject line was shorter than usual.

Alex opened it between classes, expecting another planning session for the Community Design Lab.
Instead, he found an invitation unlike anything the team had received before.
Representatives from universities, nonprofit organizations, public libraries, rehabilitation hospitals, and school districts across the country wanted to explore adapting the Community Design Lab model for their own communities.
The meeting would take place virtually.
More than one hundred participants had already confirmed.
Emma looked over Alex's shoulder.
"One hundred?"
Coach Daniels smiled.
"That number will probably grow."
By the end of the week, registrations exceeded two hundred.
The robotics lab transformed into a temporary broadcasting studio.
Cameras were positioned carefully.
Microphones tested repeatedly.
Presentation screens covered one wall.
Yet Alex seemed more interested in arranging chairs than reviewing slides.
Emma noticed.
"Nervous?"
"A little."
"About speaking?"
Alex shook his head.
"I'm more nervous about listening."
Coach Daniels looked puzzled.
Alex explained.
"If this many communities join... they'll all have different needs."
Coach nodded slowly.
"Which means?"
"We shouldn't arrive with one solution."
Instead of presenting a finished program, the team reorganized their session entirely.

Students would simply ask questions.

One librarian described challenges helping children navigate crowded reading areas.
A hospital therapist discussed temporary equipment shortages.

By the end of the meeting, Alex's notebook contained far more questions than answers.
Dr. Ortiz smiled as everyone logged off.
"I'd call that a successful day."
Emma laughed.
"We barely presented anything."
"Exactly."
"You planned that?"
