Chapter 4 - The Office Door Closed
Assistant Principal Brooks did not ask Jason what happened first.
She already knew enough from the water on the floor, the buckets beside his shoes, and the look on Alex’s face.
“Mr. Miller,” she said coldly, “you and your friends will follow me to the office.”
Jason tried to laugh, but it came out weak.
“It was just a joke.”
No one laughed.
Not even his own friends.
Brooks turned toward the crowd.
“Anyone who recorded this will send the video directly to the administration. Do not post it. Do not delete it.”
Emma stepped forward immediately.
“I recorded from the beginning.”
Daniel appeared behind her, breathing hard, with Principal Harris rushing beside him.
When Principal Harris saw Alex drenched in the hallway, his face went pale.
“Get the nurse,” he ordered. “And call Alex’s mother.”
Alex finally looked up.
“Please don’t call her yet,” he said softly. “She’ll worry.”
That sentence hurt more than anything else.
The principal knelt beside him, careful not to touch the wheelchair without permission.
“Alex, this should never have happened.”
Alex swallowed.
“It has happened before. Just not like this.”
The words hung in the hallway.
Brooks froze.
Principal Harris slowly stood.
“Before?”
Jason’s face changed.
His friends looked at the floor.
Alex did not answer immediately, but Emma did.
“Yes,” she said. “A lot of people know.”
That was when the hallway shifted again.
This was no longer one cruel incident.
It was a door opening to something much bigger.
As Jason and his friends were escorted away, their confidence disappeared step by step. Behind them, students whispered, not with excitement now, but with guilt.
In the office, the door closed.
Principal Harris placed the first video on his screen.

And outside the school, Alex’s mother had just received a call that would bring her running toward Westbrook High with questions no one was ready to answer.
