Late one evening, Dr. Ortiz forwarded an email unlike any the students had received before.
The sender represented an international educational organization promoting student-led innovation.
Several educators overseas had read articles about the Community Design Lab.
They wanted to learn more.
Alex blinked.
"They're serious?"
Emma read the email again.
"They're asking whether students would be willing to share how the program works."
Not blueprints.
Not finished inventions.
The process itself.
How students interviewed community members.
How feedback shaped prototypes.
How schools collaborated instead of competing.
Coach Daniels smiled.
"Looks like your ideas have started traveling farther than any of us expected."
A virtual meeting was scheduled for the following week.
Participants joined from different countries and time zones.
Some schools had advanced engineering laboratories.
Others worked from ordinary classrooms with almost no equipment.
One teacher apologized.
"We don't have 3D printers."
Alex answered immediately.
"You don't need them to ask good questions."
The translator paused briefly before repeating his sentence.
Several teachers smiled.
Students from another country displayed cardboard prototypes built entirely from recycled packaging.
Emma admired the creativity.
"They solved the same problem completely differently."
Professor Chen later commented,
"That's why collaboration matters."
Different communities.
Different resources.
Different ideas.
Yet many challenges felt surprisingly familiar.
By the end of the meeting, Alex's notebook contained greetings written in several languages beside sketches contributed by students thousands of miles away.
