Chapter 10 - The Silent Watcher

The black sedan remained motionless beneath the trees for nearly forty minutes.
Inside, the driver never lowered the window, never stepped outside, and never attempted to approach the property. Instead, he watched through a pair of compact binoculars, recording every vehicle that entered and every person who left.
A small camera rested on the dashboard.
Each time someone appeared near the front entrance, another photograph was quietly captured and transmitted through an encrypted connection.
Inside the residence, Harold had already noticed the pattern.
"They're gathering information," he said.
Samuel frowned.
"Not attacking?"
"No."
"Why?"
Harold folded his hands.
"Because professionals learn first."
Detective Elena Morris stood beside the security monitor, studying the parked sedan.
"We've already requested nearby traffic cameras."
Harold shook his head.
"You won't find much."
"You sound certain."
"I've seen this kind of surveillance before."
The room became quiet.
"You recognize them?"
"I recognize the method."
Before anyone could ask another question, one of the security specialists entered carrying a laptop.
"We recovered something from the witness videos."
He connected the device to a large monitor.
The footage replayed the assault from three different angles.
One recording captured the exact moment when the leader unwrapped Harold's silver emblem.
Everyone watched carefully.
Then the technician paused the video.
"There."
Detective Morris leaned closer.
Reflected in the window of a nearby store stood another person.
He had never entered the confrontation.
He never tried to stop it.
He simply watched.
Frame after frame showed the same individual wearing a dark baseball cap.
"He wasn't one of the four suspects," Elena whispered.
"No."
"He stayed outside every camera except this reflection."
The technician enhanced the image.
The face remained blurred.
But one detail became unmistakable.
The man was wearing an earpiece.
May you like
Someone had been supervising the attack from a distance.
