Chapter 51 - The Lighthouse Files

The coordinates led to an abandoned lighthouse standing on a rocky peninsula nearly seventy miles from the city.

Officially, it had been decommissioned decades earlier.

Unofficially...

...someone had restored its electrical system.

The rotating beacon remained dark, but lights glowed faintly inside the tower.

The investigation team entered cautiously.

Every floor appeared empty until Catherine noticed something unusual beneath the spiral staircase.

"The dust."

Elena looked down.

A perfect circle had been swept clean.

Samuel crouched beside it.

"There has to be a hatch."

After several minutes of searching, one officer located a hidden release concealed inside the lighthouse wall.

A circular platform slowly descended into a subterranean chamber.

Unlike the previous archives, this room resembled a research library.

Thousands of folders lined the shelves.

Each drawer was labeled with a year rather than a location.

1958.

1959.

1960.

1961.

1962.

1963.

Harold slowly walked between the shelves.

"They expanded it."

Michael looked puzzled.

"What do you mean?"

"Our archives were organized by events."

He gently touched one drawer.

"This archive records time."

Elena opened the drawer marked 2026.

Inside were newspaper clippings covering their own investigation.

Every article had already been collected.

Every television interview had been transcribed.

Even details never released publicly had been summarized.

Someone was documenting them...

May you like

...almost in real time.
