Chapter 47 - Station 19

Historical city maps revealed that Station 19 had never been a train station.
Nor a police station.
Nor a fire station.
It was an abandoned civil-defense communications bunker built during the Cold War and officially sealed more than thirty-five years earlier.
"Officially," Elena repeated.
Marcus Doyle smiled grimly.
"Which usually means someone forgot about it."
By afternoon, a small investigative team reached the hillside where the bunker was supposedly buried.
Nothing remained except cracked concrete, rusted fencing, and overgrown vegetation.
"It looks abandoned," one officer observed.
Harold remained unconvinced.
"Appearances have become unreliable."
Engineers scanned the ground.
Within minutes, one pointed toward a section beneath a collapsed retaining wall.
"There's a hollow space."
Excavation tools were brought in.
After removing decades of soil and debris, the outline of a steel blast door emerged.
Unlike the warehouse entrance, this one bore no emblem.
Only a single engraved sentence.
Every record deserves a witness.
Arthur slowly touched the words.
"I've heard that before."
"Where?" Elena asked.
Arthur closed his eyes.
"Someone said it during our final meeting."
Harold looked at him.
"I don't remember."
Arthur opened his eyes.
"That's because..."
May you like
"...you left before the meeting ended."
