Chapter 58 - The Rooftop Camera

The photograph arrived less than ten minutes after the team finished listening to Benjamin Cross's recording.

It was still warm.

Not from sunlight.

From the photographic printer.

Detective Elena Morris carefully placed it beneath a forensic light.

Every detail appeared remarkably sharp.

Harold stepping through the front door.

Marcus speaking into his radio.

Catherine looking up at the faded studio sign.

Even the timestamp matched the exact minute they had entered the building.

"It wasn't taken with a long lens," the forensic photographer observed.

"It was too close."

Marcus immediately requested aerial photographs of the surrounding buildings.

Within minutes, a map covered the conference table.

"There are only four rooftops with this angle."

Search teams deployed immediately.

Three rooftops proved empty.

The fourth contained something unexpected.

An old mechanical camera mounted on a reinforced tripod.

No fingerprints.

No memory card.

Instead, the camera stored exposed film.

Someone had intentionally avoided digital technology.

The camera pointed directly toward Benjamin Cross's studio.

Nearby rested a folding chair.

A thermos still contained warm coffee.

The watcher had left only moments earlier.

But one item remained behind.

A small notebook.

Every page contained observation logs.

Times.

Weather conditions.

Vehicle descriptions.

Nothing personal.

Nothing emotional.

The final entry read:

11:42 A.M. — Harold opened the envelope.

Beneath it, someone had written another line.

He still doesn't know what Benjamin withheld.

Harold quietly closed the notebook.

May you like

"So Benjamin hid something even from me."
