Chapter 46 - The Chronicle

The newly engraved emblem remained in the evidence bag throughout the drive back from the observatory.

Unlike every previous emblem, this one had been polished to a mirror finish. The inscription—**The Chronicle Has Begun**—appeared to have been engraved only hours earlier.

Detective Elena Morris placed it beside the other recovered emblems inside the forensic laboratory.

The technician immediately noticed something unusual.

"They aren't identical."

Harold looked up.

"Show me."

Using a digital microscope, the technician enlarged the engraving marks.

"The original emblems were carved by hand."

He switched to the newest one.

"This one was cut by modern equipment."

Samuel folded his arms.

"So someone is manufacturing new emblems."

"No," Harold replied quietly.

"They're imitating them."

Michael frowned.

"Why imitate something almost nobody recognizes?"

Harold answered without hesitation.

"Because symbols create belief."

Elena stared at the monitor.

"You think someone is building a new organization?"

"I think someone wants the world to believe the old one never disappeared."

Before anyone could continue, another technician rushed into the laboratory carrying a laptop.

"We recovered partial GPS data from the abandoned vehicle."

Elena stood.

"Where does it lead?"

The technician zoomed in on the route.

The vehicle had visited every location already connected to the investigation.

The first warehouse.

Archive East.

Arthur's abandoned sedan.

The observatory.

Then one final destination appeared.

A place no one had mentioned before.

The map displayed only an old municipal designation.

Station 19.

Harold stared at the screen.

"I've never heard of it."

For the first time, the unknown group had moved beyond Harold's own memories.
