Chapter 17 - A Voice from the Past

Back at the house, Daniel asked Lily to continue reading the diary.
She hesitated before opening another section.
The entries became shorter as the years passed.
Not because she had less to say...
But because she had less hope.
One page caught Daniel's attention.
Today I met Mr. Harris again.
Daniel looked up.
"Who was Mr. Harris?"
Lily thought for a moment.
"The mailman."
"He used to bring your letters."
"What happened?"
"He stopped coming."
She turned another page.
Mr. Harris promised he would tell Dad the truth. Aunt Rebecca became very angry afterward. I never saw him again.
Samuel immediately wrote the name down.
"I'll find him."
An hour later his phone rang.
He answered without speaking.
After listening for several minutes, he slowly lowered the device.
"I found him."
Daniel leaned forward.
"Where?"
"He retired eight years ago."
"Can we visit?"
Samuel hesitated.
"We can."
"But there's something you should know."
"He filed three official complaints about this address."
Daniel stared silently.
"Were they investigated?"
"Yes."
May you like
"And every complaint was closed the same week."
