Chapter 28 - The Anonymous Warning

Daniel read the text message three times.

Stop searching. The truth will cost Lily far more than you realize.

There was no sender.

No signature.

Only those twelve words.

Samuel immediately connected Daniel's phone to his laptop.

"The number is masked."

"Can you trace it?"

"Maybe."

Several minutes passed as lines of data filled the screen.

Finally Samuel leaned back.

"Interesting."

"What?"

"The message wasn't sent from another phone."

Daniel frowned.

"It originated from an online gateway."

"So whoever sent it knows how to hide."

Samuel nodded.

"And they also knew your new number."

Daniel hadn't shared that number with many people.

Only Samuel.

The airline.

The bank.

And everyone living inside the house.

Lily quietly looked toward the kitchen.

"They're still here."

Daniel followed her gaze.

Rebecca sat calmly drinking tea, chatting with her children as though nothing unusual had happened.

She looked perfectly relaxed.

Too relaxed.

As if she already knew the message had been delivered.

Daniel slipped the phone back into his pocket.

"I'm done reacting."

Samuel smiled faintly.

"Good."

"Because from now on..."

"We make them react to us."

Late that evening, Daniel intentionally left the architectural blueprints lying on the dining table before turning off the lights.

Neither he nor Samuel went to bed.

Instead, they quietly watched the security cameras Samuel had installed earlier that afternoon.

At 2:17 a.m...

A bedroom door slowly opened upstairs.

Someone descended the staircase without turning on a single light.

The figure walked directly toward the blueprints.

May you like

As though already knowing exactly where they had been left.
