Chapter 61 - Pages Without Ink

The remaining pages looked completely blank.
Daniel flipped through them slowly.
Nothing.
No writing.
No drawings.
Only aged paper.
Samuel smiled faintly.
"I don't think it's empty."
He removed a small forensic flashlight from his bag and illuminated the first page.
Still nothing.
Then he adjusted the wavelength.
Pale blue lines slowly emerged across the paper.
Invisible ink.
Lily leaned closer.
The hidden text did not form paragraphs.
Instead, every page contained a different location.
A bridge.
A church.
A courthouse.
A cemetery.
An old railway station.
Daniel immediately recognized several places they had already visited.
Someone had been documenting the investigation years before it ever happened.
Near the middle of the notebook they found another page.
This one contained a short dialogue.
Question: Who protects the Archive?
Answer: The one nobody remembers.
Samuel frowned.
"That sounds less like a clue..."
"...and more like instructions."
Daniel continued turning pages.
The final sheet contained a hand-drawn portrait.
An elderly man wearing a dark coat.
Silver hair.
Calm eyes.
Daniel slowly looked up.
The caretaker stood only a few feet away.
The portrait was unmistakably him.
Except...
The drawing had been dated twenty-six years earlier.

Yet the man in the picture looked exactly the same age as he did now.
