Chapter 21 - The Bank Manager's Appointment

The following morning, Samuel arranged an emergency meeting with the regional bank manager.
Daniel and Lily entered together.
Rebecca insisted on coming as well.
"So everything stays transparent," she said with a polite smile.
The manager welcomed them into a private conference room.
Several thick folders already waited on the table.
"I've reviewed the account history."
He looked toward Lily.
"Miss Carter..."
"You've never personally visited this branch."
"No."
"You've never signed any withdrawal authorization."
"No."
"You've never granted power of attorney."
Lily shook her head again.
The manager slowly turned another page.
"Then we have a serious problem."
He projected digital records onto a large screen.
Video snapshots accompanied every major withdrawal.
Daniel leaned forward.
The woman appearing on the screen resembled Lily from a distance.
Same height.
Similar hairstyle.
Large sunglasses.
Face mask.
But the closer the image became...
The differences were obvious.
It wasn't Lily.
Samuel paused the video.
"There."
The fake signature.
The fake identification.
The fake customer.
The manager sighed.
"These transactions total over two million dollars."
Rebecca suddenly stood.
"I need some air."
She hurried toward the conference-room door.
Before she reached it, two investigators from the bank's fraud department entered from the hallway.
One of them spoke calmly.
"Mrs. Carter..."
May you like
"We'd appreciate it if you remained here."
