Chapter 30 - Locker 114
The following morning, Samuel contacted every railway station, bus terminal, and storage company within fifty miles.
By noon, one manager finally recognized the key.
"It belongs to an old luggage locker."
"Still active?"
"Technically... yes."
"No one has opened it in over fifteen years."
Daniel, Lily, and Samuel drove there immediately.
The station had changed dramatically since Daniel last saw it.
Modern ticket machines replaced the old counters.
New platforms stretched across the property.
Only one hallway remained untouched.
At its end stood a row of forgotten steel lockers.
Most were empty.
Locker 114 still carried its original brass lock.
Daniel inserted the key.
For a brief moment...
Nothing happened.
Then...
Click.
The heavy door opened.
Inside rested a weatherproof storage case.
Wrapped in plastic.
Completely untouched by time.
Daniel carefully lifted it onto a nearby bench.
Inside lay several VHS tapes.
A digital voice recorder.
A stack of legal documents.
And an old newspaper.
The newspaper headline stopped everyone cold.
LOCAL BUSINESSMAN DIES IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENT
The article featured Edward Langford.
The same man whose identity had somehow continued appearing in financial records years after his death.
Folded beneath the newspaper was another handwritten note.
He never died where they said he did.
Samuel looked toward Daniel.
