Chapter 51 - The Third Symbol

That evening Daniel spread every recovered map across the dining table.
Grandfather's survey.
The revised blueprint.
The tunnel drawings.
The estate plans.
The church records.
The parchment hidden inside the compass.
Each contained the same strange symbol.
Yet one detail had escaped everyone.
The symbol wasn't identical.
It slowly evolved.
Three slightly different versions appeared over the decades.
Lily placed transparent tracing paper over each drawing.
The changes became obvious.
"The lines move."
Samuel smiled.
"They're not decorations."
"They're directions."
Layering the symbols together produced a completely new image.
Not a symbol at all.
A geographic outline.
Daniel immediately recognized it.
"It's the old quarry."
The abandoned quarry lay several miles beyond the river, closed long before Lily was born.
Samuel checked the map again.
At its center, directly beneath the completed symbol, tiny handwriting finally became readable under magnification.
Third Chamber
Daniel remembered the message hidden inside the compass.
When the third chamber opens, trust the map—not the guide.
Before anyone could discuss what waited beneath the quarry, Daniel's phone vibrated.
Another anonymous message.
This time it contained no threat.
Only a recent photograph.
Taken from outside the Carter house.
The image showed Daniel, Lily, and Samuel standing together around the dining table only minutes earlier.
