Chapter 89 - The Debt That Was Never Repaid

The room remained silent.
Daniel searched the man's face for any sign of deception.
"There was no record of that," he said.
"There wouldn't be."
The observer opened his briefcase and removed a faded hospital photograph.
A teenage boy lay unconscious in a hospital bed.
Standing beside him...
A much younger Daniel.
"I remember him," Daniel whispered.
"Construction accident."
"Singapore."
The observer nodded.
"My son was crushed beneath a collapsed scaffold."
"You pulled him out before emergency crews arrived."
Daniel slowly remembered.
"It wasn't just me."
"You refused the reward."
"I barely remember the incident."
"I never forgot."
The observer's voice grew quieter.
"When your father learned who I was..."
"...he asked me for one favor."
"What favor?"
"Watch over you."
"Without letting you know."
Samuel looked surprised.
"So you've been protecting Daniel?"
"As best I could."
The observer removed another envelope.
Inside were airline tickets.
Hotel receipts.
Immigration records.
Every time Daniel unknowingly changed hotels...
Accepted a different flight...
Or delayed a business trip...
Someone had quietly influenced the circumstances.
"You weren't controlling my life."
"No."
"I was removing dangers before you reached them."
Daniel stared at the evidence.
How many moments he believed were coincidence...
May you like
Had actually been someone else's silent intervention?
