Chapter 22 - The Hidden Committee

Late that evening, Margaret's investigators examined Melissa's files.

One document immediately stood out.

It referred to something called the Leadership Alignment Committee.

None of the board members had mentioned it.

Arthur Vance had never authorized it.

Yet dozens of promotion decisions had been reviewed under its recommendations.

"Has anyone heard of this committee?" Margaret asked.

The room remained silent.

An analyst searched archived records.

"No official registration."

"No charter."

"No board approval."

"Nothing."

Margaret frowned.

"Then why does it appear on so many documents?"

Another investigator highlighted a recurring list of attendees.

Different departments.

Different offices.

One familiar executive name appeared almost every time.

Daniel Ross.

Several others from headquarters appeared repeatedly alongside him.

The committee seemed unofficial.

But its influence stretched across the company.

Promotion standards.

Leadership appointments.

Succession planning.

Recruitment policies.

Even executive training materials.

Someone had quietly built an organization inside the organization.

Margaret looked toward the legal counsel.

"If these documents are authentic, this committee shaped company culture without the knowledge of the founder."

He nodded slowly.

"Which means accountability may extend much further than we expected."

Meanwhile, Arthur received another confidential update.

This time, he did not read it alone.

He requested an emergency meeting with the independent directors for the following morning.

The investigation was beginning to uncover structures that officially did not exist.
