Chapter 42 - The Notebook from Room Twelve
Another anonymous package arrived two days later.
Unlike previous deliveries, this one came through ordinary postal mail.
No return address.
Inside rested an old leather notebook.
Its first page contained only a handwritten message.
Conference – Room 12
Samuel Pierce immediately recognized it.
"I know this notebook."
Margaret looked up.
"You've seen it before?"
Samuel nodded.
"It belonged to Harold."
The room froze.
Carefully turning the fragile pages, Margaret discovered detailed notes taken during the Executive Leadership Forum.
Most entries discussed leadership ethics.
Decision-making.
Corporate responsibility.
Then the tone suddenly changed.
Several pages contained observations rather than lecture notes.
> Private evening meeting.
> Attendance restricted.
> Charles invited separately.
> Evelyn leading discussion.
> Topic withheld from general participants.
Margaret continued reading.
Another page had been heavily underlined.
> They believe organizational culture can be redesigned by changing promotion criteria instead of changing written policy.
No accusations.
Only observations.
The next page stopped everyone.
Harold had written only one sentence.
> If Arthur never hears this conversation, the company will eventually become something he never intended to build.
Margaret closed the notebook gently.
For several moments no one spoke.
The warning had been written before any official policy changes had occurred.
Harold had seen the direction years before anyone else recognized it.
