Chapter 46 - The Voice on the Recording
Late that evening, an audio technician reprocessed an old cassette recovered from Harold Bennett's notebook.
Most of the recording contained ordinary conference discussions.
Then, beneath layers of static, another voice emerged.
It had been almost impossible to hear until modern restoration software isolated it.
Everyone gathered around the speakers.
The unidentified speaker said calmly:
"Policies are temporary. Culture survives generations."
Margaret froze.
She had read almost the exact sentence in multiple confidential notes.
The recording continued.
"If leaders control who becomes the next generation of leaders, written rules become unnecessary."
Static swallowed the remaining words.
Arthur slowly lowered his head.
"That philosophy shaped my company for nearly twenty years."
The technician replayed the clip several more times.
Samuel suddenly looked toward Margaret.
"I've heard that voice before."
Margaret immediately turned to him.
"Where?"
Samuel closed his eyes, searching memories he had tried to forget.
"Not at the conference."
He paused.
"I heard it inside this building... weeks before Harold resigned."
Every investigator looked up simultaneously.
If Samuel's memory was correct, then the unknown architect behind the leadership philosophy had entered Vance Dynamics long before the Executive Leadership Forum officially concluded.
