While investigators continued studying conference records, an engineer restoring the headquarters security archive made an unexpected discovery.
The building's original elevator control system had never been completely removed.
It had simply been disconnected.
Within its memory remained thousands of movement logs dating back more than twenty years.
Most were routine.
Employees traveling between floors.
Maintenance activity.
Cleaning schedules.
Then one sequence immediately attracted attention.
Every Tuesday evening for almost four consecutive years...
The executive elevator traveled from the Chairman's floor...
To Office 7C...
Then descended one level below the official basement.
Arthur frowned.
"There was never a button below B1."
The engineer enlarged the technical blueprint.
"There wasn't."
"But there was a service override."
Margaret immediately understood.
"The elevator could reach a level hidden from ordinary users."
Samuel slowly looked toward Arthur.
"So Office 7C wasn't the end."
Arthur finished the sentence.
"It was only the checkpoint."
Every weekly visit lasted almost exactly ninety minutes.
No employee identification accompanied the trips.
Only one authorization code appeared repeatedly.

Margaret circled the code.
Not initials this time.
An operational authorization.
The letters "EK" had now appeared in correspondence...
Training documents...
Meeting notes...
Archived recordings...
And now the building's own elevator system.
