Chapter 96 - The Unfinished Chapter
As evening settled over Boston, Mercer placed one final object on the table.
A thin notebook.
Unlike the others, its final pages were completely blank.
Margaret opened the cover.
Inside, only one sentence had been written.
> Every generation must rewrite this chapter for itself.
Arthur looked puzzled.
"There are no instructions."
"There were never supposed to be," Mercer answered.
"The founder of these writings believed every organization should question inherited ideas rather than preserve them unquestioningly."
Margaret slowly understood.
"The blank pages were intentional."
Mercer nodded.
"They were an invitation."
Judge Walsh closed the notebook.
"But someone else filled those blank pages..."
"...with certainty instead of questions," Mercer finished.
Silence settled over the room.
Outside, Boston traffic continued as ordinary life moved forward.
Inside the old townhouse, the investigation had reached another turning point.
For months, Margaret had believed the hidden volumes contained the answers.
Now she realized they were only snapshots in a much longer conversation stretching across generations.
Somewhere, there were still people defending the edited philosophy.
